The evolving of the folding bike, at least on the U.S. market, may arguably have occurred in three stages:
Until not that long ago a folder was a bicycle that did not ride well, handle well or even fold that well. Frankly some current makes/models may still languish in one or more of these categories.
Subsequently a few brands were able to offer bikes which fold easily and 'ride pretty well' too, while only as in 'pretty well for a folder'.
Now a few medium-to-high end bikes fold easily and crisply, and 'ride superbly' as well. And that would be as in 'superbly for any bike—large or small, folding or not'. In fact some of our customers buy their folders not primarily because they fold.
If by outstanding value we mean a bike that remains an ever blossoming joy to own, rides superbly, holds up well, perennially pleases the eye and in the unlikely event we'd sell it shall fetch a good price then the Brompton in particular offers outstanding value. Here's an example: In 2008 Norm Smith (yes, he's the distinguished looking fellow in the 'Watch the Brompton Fold' video) decided to sell his Brompton (as he wanted a new model in another color) he bought some six years ago for $850. It fetched $800 on Craig's List within 24 hours.
You'll find a large selection of highly competitively priced Brompton, Giant and Dahon folders in our Seattle store. Come in, test ride and compare!

The first 'Join the Folder Ride' sponsored by the Cascade Bicycle Club and lead by Brompton owner par excellence Scott Kralik successfully rolled in Seattle on July 11, 2009. We are looking forward to these becoming regular events.
